There are many wonderful sock blankets using multiple colors of yarn, but not many people have that much sock scrap yarn hanging around... Since these types of patterns are so popular, there are many mini-skein swap groups on Ravelry, including Mini Mania.
I am currently working on the Beekeeper's quilt, so I will have to join some swaps as soon as I start running low on my own miniskeins!
