This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen:

"365 is stitching the time as it passes by. It is knitting 24 hours a day and one year at the time, showing the physical representation of time as a creative and tangible force. After 365 days the clock has turned the passed year into a 2-m long scarf. Now the past can be carried out in the future and the upcoming year is hiding in a new spool of thread, still unknitted."

Knitting while Hiking

I really like walking around outside. I wouldn't call myself a big hiker (I am afraid of falling so I hate loose rocks) but I do enjoy long walks. I cannot really imagine bringing some knitting with me on a hike. Sure, I might bring it camping, but carrying it with you when you hike is dedication!

Walking on Broken Glass

If I were to describe this photograph without showing it to you, I'm not sure if you would believe me! Lizzi Young (pictured) is knitting with hockey sticks while standing on broken glass. As if one of those activities wouldn't be extreme on its own! I can barely knit while standing up...

I decided to Google "Knitting on a Roller Coaster" just to see what I could find. Maybe I've been reading too much XKCD lately...

Would you believe me if I told you I found photographic evidence of someone knitting while on a roller coaster? I recommend reading Kris' blog post about the experience.

Largest Knit Tea Cozy

Rachel Barson holds the world record for the largest knit tea cozy. "The largest tea cosy was knitted by members of the public, Bupa care homes residents across the UK and resident care homes in Spain and New Zealand at Ashley Park nursing home in Guilford, UK, on 9 April 2009." - Guinness World Records Online

The previous attempt from 2008 was also quite large. See a picture of the largest knit tea cozy.

Knitting while running a marathon?!?

Susie Hewer holds the world record for the longest scarf knit while running a marathon at 1m 62 cm (5'2"). I don't think I could knit and walk at the same time! Check out a picture of Susie and her scarf in her blogger profile.

Susie has run over 20 marathons, and also holds the world record for the longest crochet chain knit while running a marathon (77.4m). What an accomplishment, Susie! Hopefully getting awarded "Knitting Project of the Day" will also rank somewhere in your heart....

Knitted Dissected Animals

If you are creeped out by high school biology dissection lessons, then the following project may not be for you. The writers at slightlywarped.com's Curiosities shared images of three different KNIT dissected animals. These include a frog, rat and even rabbit! I'm not sure how anatomically correct these knit sculptures are, but they sure do bring back memories from high school bio labs!

I am ChemKnits after all. I have to share science knitting projects every once in a while!

Largest Knitting Needles

"The largest knitting needles measured 3.5 m (11 ft 5.8 in) long and had a diameter of 8 cm (3.15 in). Ingrid Wagner (UK) used the needles to knit a tension square of ten stitches by ten rows at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, on 10 March 2008." -Guinness World Records

And I thought it was hard to knit with size 50 knitting needles... Way to go Wagner! (See a photo of the completed swatch with the needles and the knitter at the Record page.)

Extreme Knitting - Knitting with 1000 Strands

I have done a lot of knitting with multiple strands... but the 8 strands used in my 10 hour afghan on size 50 needles does not compare to what you will see in the following video.
