Knitted carbon/PEEK composites for orthopedic bone plates

When I came across the article Feasibility of knitted carbon/PEEK composites for orthopedic bone plates published in 2004 I was hoping that by glancing at the full text if this was using a knit mesh of some sort... And in fact, this is true! Finally, a science knitting article that involves something knit! Apparently knitted fabrics have some application in orthopedic surgeries, "knitted fabric-reinforced composites have received increasing attention since they have several benefits such as mass productivity, low fabrication cost, and especially high drape ability to complicated contours..."
